Brahmansh releases wearable device for treating migraines, Migraelief
Written by Team MyndStories

Bhilai-based startup, Brahmansh, has unveiled a wearable device for migraine, stress, and sleep issues.

Named Migraelief, the device is purported to be India’s first wearable option to treat migraine and accompanying issues like sleep disorders and stress. In a process called neuromodulation, the device uses sound waves or electric pulses to stimulate and calm the nervous system.

The company says Migraelief allows the user to avoid taking extensive medication and brings relief within 20 minutes of use. According to research results on their site, around 70% of users found immediate pain relief in under 20 minutes.

As per Global Burden of Disease’s 2019 research results, headache disorders were the third most frequent cause of disability out of a total of 369 diseases across the world. A 2019 Lancet study showed 488 million people in India live with headache disorders, of which 214 million have migraines. Headaches impact an individual’s life in many ways resulting in absenteeism, financial loss, and reduced quality of personal life.

How does neuromodulation work, and is it effective?

Research shows that neuromodulation is a safe, non-pharmacological alternative to treat migraine and cluster headaches.

How does it work? The electrical pulses work on 3 key nerves that trigger headaches, namely:

  • The trigeminal nerve in the forehead, which is linked to movement in the face
  • The vagus nerve that connects the brain to the abdomen and is responsible for digestion and breathing
  • The occipital nerve, which is at the back of the head

Studies show that stimulating these key nerves, especially the trigeminal nerve, brings relief.

Brahmansh founders, Jaideep Tiwari and K. Kartik, hope that their portable, user-friendly, and cost-effective device will help migraine users lead a more functional life by reducing stress and increasing productivity.
