Storytelling platform Sanity to hold event exploring pros and cons of AI therapy

January 16, 2025

Will AI therapy be the new normal?
Written by Team MyndStories

From chatbots to virtual therapists, there’s seemingly nothing that AI can’t do. Yet, in a world that is increasingly tech-driven, how safe is AI? Are we trusting our emotional landscape to artificial intelligence at the cost of human intelligence?

Mental health is at a fascinating crossroads.

●  On one hand is the gung-ho rise of AI-based platforms that claim to ‘replace human therapists’. Flush with venture capital, tech startups are positioning themselves as the cure for everything that’s wrong with conventional mental health care. But their ‘move fast and break things’ ethos raises thorny questions about their clinical efficacy and the safety of sensitive patient data.

●  Meanwhile, human networks — peer support groups and community mental health initiatives — offer a counternarrative to  techno-solutionism. And louder than ever, persons with lived experience are asserting their expertise and their right to get a seat at the table where mental health policies and priorities are decided.

●  Throw into this mix the growing psychological toll of climate change and conflict, the youth mental health crisis, debates around the pharma-psychiatric system, and regulators racing to keep up with emerging forces, and you get an industry in tremendous, exciting flux.

●      The flipside: ‘Mental health’ has become a nightmare soup of buzzwords, devoid of any coherent context. Whether you’re a mental health professional, patient, entrepreneur, researcher, student, or simply a nerd like me — finding clarity and connection between the million different, exciting, confusing themes in the sector can be a struggle.

●      Without this clarity, it’s impossible to do your best work. Secure your and your community’s interests. Feel empowered.

The founder of the mental health storytelling platform, Sanity by Tanmoy, is seeking to answer these and more questions. He has spent hundreds of hours wrestling with the most important emerging themes in mental health so we don’t have to.

Join him and a small group on Jan 25 for a special live Zoom session to dive into the biggest themes shaping the mental health sector in 2025 and beyond.

 When: Jan 25, 7: 30 pm, India

Who is this session for?

Lived experience experts, caregivers, policymakers, funders, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, journalists, and anyone else who has a stake in the future of mental health.

Who is Tanmoy?

Tanmoy is a user-survivor and the creator of Sanity, an independent mental health storytelling platform with a reader community spanning over 50 countries. He is a fellow of the Reuters Institute, University of Oxford, and advisor to the Centre for Global Mental Health run by King’s College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He’s also a jury member for the Project SIREN Awards that recognizes journalistic excellence on the topic of suicide prevention. After decades of living in megacities, he is now teaching his lungs to breathe again in a small mountain town.
